By now, you have probably heard the news that 10 states got waivers from the No Child Left Behind law. I do feel that this is a step in the right direction merely because of the statement that President Obama said. He claims that accountability and standards are the right goals, ""But we've got to do it in a way that doesn't force teachers to teach to the test, or encourage schools to lower their standards to avoid being labeled as failures. That doesn't help anybody. It certainly doesn't help our children in the classroom."
I hope that the federal government will give the local and state governments more say in how to educate our children and I certainly hope that the state and local governments will truly address ways to help kids without resorting to a single test that eliminates entire subjects from their curriculum.
Good move Mr. President. The ball is still in your court though. Let's see if you can follow through and serve an ace.
